International Committee - Shelter Box Quiz Night January 2009
Another great night organised by the International Committee in aid of the Shelter Box Trust.
Thanks to the genrosity of many we had a fantastic raffle and great night at the Sacred Heart Church Hall.
Fun and fellowship and contributions to another Rotary Charity which gets support and temporary living
facitlites to many when disaster strike
A long awaited visit to this Malvern, Worcestershire based British Car Manufacturer - 100 years old
this year - 2009. The group saw the full hand building process, starting with the wood body, which is
then covered with aluminium. The car is totally hand built by skilled craftsman. Their new car the
"Aero 8" has initial orders from 100 people who have pledged a non retunrnable £25,000 deposit
for this car which retails at £110,000
Over 100 people attended the finals Night at Pittville School and all were
treated to a wonderful evening of varying grades and performances of
musical pieces. The competition was adjudicated by the Head of Music for
Gloucestershire, Malcolm Pollock who in his own words had a difficult job
in assessing and picking the winners of the three sections,
Junior, Intermediate and Senior classes.
As a club we actively support the Star College, helping at their Annual Fete.
This year one of our members, Senior Vice President John Holder - who is also the
College Chaplain - volunteered his services to be rescued by the Newfoundland Rescue Dogs,
raising hundreds of pounds inthe process. We managed the car parks to make sure everything
went smoothly
Race For Life - July 2009 Now in our fifth year of Setting Up and Marshalling this very worthwhyile cause.
2009 saw 4300 women walk the 5Km Course laid out on Cheltenham racecourse. A day without
incident and thousands of pounds raised for Cancer Research

Fiesta in theParkJuly 2009 An opportunity to join with Cheltenham Rotary Club and showcase the Shelter Box resource, which is used in the event of large scale emergencies
throughout the world. Rotary often gets to distressed and needy families
very quickly an the contents of a Shelter Box can help a homeless family exist

Membership Evening - July 2009
As our International President John Kenny has a theme of "The Future of Rotary is in Your Hands" Sunrise held
a Membership evening to a) Celebrate the Opening of a Re-furbished Lansdown Inn and b) to encourage invited
guests to find out more about the background and activities of Sunrise. The event was very well attended and a
great evening was enjoyed by over 50 guests. The food was provided by the hotel management and there was a
sports auction and a fun casino table for people to play for a prize.

Malvern Walk - July 2009
This most enjoyable function is now becoming an annual event during the month of July and again in 2009
we had a beautiful day. Thanks again to Jeff and Hilary Thoroghgood for providing a great breakfast, magnificanet
hospitality and both a challenging and leisurely walk on the beautiful Malvern Hills. Lunch was taken in the local pub with
scrumptious puds with coffee at Jeff and Hilary's after the walk
